A great entry-level mic if you’ve just started podcasting, the biggest downfall with the C01 is its wide pickup pattern, which makes it vulnerable to capturing pesky background noises. That said, if you have a quiet recording space, and don’t have a huge budget for equipment, it may be right up your alley. Here are our top three reasons to buy:
Great for multi-host or guest show formats — As we said at the outset, the C01 has a very wide pickup pattern, which can be a loss when it comes to background noise but a win if you host a show with more than one host or with guests, because you can place it on a table in front of the group and pick up everything cleanly.
Price-to-performance — Any mic under $100 that bats above its weight on performance deserves a strong plaudit, and the C01 is one of those. However, be mindful that all entry-level mics have a performance ceiling, so don’t expect the same results as you’d get from a mic three or four times the price.
Durability — If you don’t plan to upgrade your mic every couple of years, you can’t go wrong with the C01. We spoke to plenty of hosts who lauded its longevity and consistency.

Podcasting attracts millions of intelligent, passionate, and thoughtful listeners from around the world. To ensure WhatPods continues to grow into a community that serves only the best crowdsourced podcast endorsements, we make it a little difficult to endorse — it’s a filter that ensures only the best get through.
A community lives and dies by its members. To ensure WhatPods survives, we work hard to ensure only real people, with real podcast opinions, join and contribute. Sorry, Botty McBot.
