The Zoom H1 is a great little tool because it's small, light, reasonably cheap, and extremely versatile. It's a self-contained podcasting kit, with a terrific microphone, massive storage, and basic filters and manual or automatic levelling. Paired with a splitter and a couple of ATR-3350 Lavalier microphones, and it turns into a studio or mobile interview kit that fits in my pocket.
